( … ) We’re all for strengthening the safety standards of mass-produced toys, clothes, and accessories made in China, and banning toxins like phthalates and lead. But this year, congress (USA’s) passed the ill-conceived Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act, a law which goes into effect in two months and will absolutely decimate the small toy manufacturers, independent artisans, and crafters who have already earned the public trust. The very same ones that we often feature here and in our yearly special edition gift guides.

With this act going into effect February 10 2009 so many people we love will be affected: Moms who sew beautiful handmade waldorf dolls out of home, artists who have spent decades hand-carving trucks and cars out of natural woods, that guy at the craft show who sold you the cute handmade puzzle–even larger US companies who employ local workers and have not once had any sort of safety issue will no longer be able to sell their goods. Not without investing tens of thousands of dollars into third-party testing and labeling, just to prove that toys that never had a single toxic chemical in them still don’t have a single toxic chemical in them.

If you want to help spread the word, you can post this button on your blog or website. It’s our hope that together, we can encourage Congress to amend the act so that we can both keep our children safe and protect the handmade toys and clothing that we love so much. ( … )

EN - Ey guys! It’s been a crazy week so far, as the end of the year approaches with the school and work end-of-the-year rush, and I am not just busy but have had a nice powercut and therefor I am backuping like a maniac right now!!

I wanted first to tell you that I am really happy with the new released Tutorial Contest. In case you haven’t noticed we have added the guidelines also in spanish, as well as some more sponsor banners that you can follow if you wanna see lots of beautiful art!!

ES - ¡¡Hola a todos!! ha sido hasta ahora una semana loquísima, con la aproximación del fin de año, y con esto el final del ciclo lectivo y el año laboral, y los apuros que conlleva!!! Y no es que sólo esté ocupada pero tuve un corte de luz y ando backupeando como loca!!

EN – Yes, finally!! This is Pengu, he has been on a paper for quite a while now. Birdie Says was in desperate need of a cocoa drinker, since Birdie drinks tea, Miss Hermilia the owl drinks coffee, and well, now there’s Pengu, the Cocoa drinker!!

You can find Pengu’s Emperor mug in deviantArt or in cafepress. In deviantArt the mug is available also in BLACK, in cafepress just in white. However, in cafepress you can also find a travel mug version!!

ES – Finalmente aquí está!!! Este es Pengu, que ha estado esperando en papel por bastante tiempo. Birdie Says precisaba desesperadamente un ave que bebiese cocoa (chocolatada), ya que Birdie toma té, la Señorita Hermilia la lechuza toma café, y bueno, ahora está también Pengu, el bebedor de Cocoa!!!

Pueden encontrar la taza/jarro de Pengu Emperor en deviantArt o en cafepress. En deviantArt las tazas/jarros también están disponibles en NEGRO, en cafepress sólo en blanco. Sin embargo en cafepress también pueden encontrar una versión de jarro de viaje!!
